Nearing the 5 week to go mark

The weekend just gone was Shaun’s Birthday, to celebrate I cooked an awesome white chocolate mudcake decorated in the shape of Australia.  The other surprise was the present I purchased for my well deserving husband, a one day 4WD training course. He is really looking forward to it and I am sure there will be a nice blog post and photos galore to share the experience with you.

On a more serious note trip preparations are gathering momentum. The storage drawer rig is coming together nicely. See the photos below:

We are now needing to complete the front of the drawer, line with non-slip matting, divide drawer into compartments,  attach the fridge slide, hinge the side compartments and cover with marine carpet to finish. Hopefully, it will all come together over the next couple of weeks. Although from this weekend we are becoming crazy busy, each weekend is almost full between now and when we head off.

The other trip necessity that we have purchased and fitted is an Ironman 4WD awning. It was so easy to install, set up and pack away. I think when we are in the middle of the Simpson Desert, we will really appreciate the shade.

We have 36 days before trip day. I have 19 working days and Shaun the lucky bugger only has 11 days.

We only have 5 weekends as well which as I said before are being filled quickly.

Weekend One: Packing our things for storage, several trips to the tip,

Weekend Two: Broncos Footy Game in Brisbane, send off lunch for send off with friends and also Father’s Day.

Weekend Three: 4WD Training Course, Condamine River Road test trip to test all the gear

Weekend Four: My Pop’s 80th Birthday Lunch, my parents dropping off their caravan

Weekend Five: Our Going Away Get Together

Lucky Shaun has taken several weeks off before we head off as there is so much to do still. Listing those above is enough to tire me out.

The Countdown continues.

  2. Hi Tony,

Thanks for leaving a comment. We appreciate that people are taking time out to read our blog and that our adventures aren’t falling on deaf ears. With 31 days to go before we take off it’s all very exciting. Early congratulations for your retirement next year. I wish your wife and yourself all the best with your travels and hopefully we will run into you at a bush camp in the future.
