Well we closing in on one month at Tobermorey and it still feels like a lot longer. (in a good way) We are pretty settled in and have our finally got into some form of routine. The work is hard and hours long but it still doesn’t feel like your mundane 9-5 job. It’s such a fun place to be at the moment with everyone out here for mustering. There is always people about.
The tourist season is picking up and the camp grounds are starting to house at least one traveller a night. The grass is still green and the tourists always make the same comment about the “oasis of the Plenty”. I am sure June and July will start the camp grounds starting to pack out.
Our poddy calf collection is growing. We now have 5 and only one hasn’t made it. It died overnight. We have also lost our piglet and some chickens to one of the working dogs. Such is life. The lesson…. don’t get attached to them.
I saw my first ever RFDS plane fly out a few weeks back. One of the owner’s had a suspected blood clot. They were out within several hours and took him to Mount Isa. It turned out all things were fine but it just proved the importance of the RFDS. On the topic of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Ms Jenna Brook is heading off to conquer the Simpson Desert by foot next month. Please head to her page to read more about her story. www.thelongwalkhome.com.au The RFDS really is our lifeline while we live out here.
Friday’s are always a day I look forward too. It’s mail plane day. It is like Christmas to get packages in the mail out here. It also gets me out of the kitchen and off on a drive. Last week was exciting as there were a few cattle on the airstrip. There was a bit of a dodgy take off and we spent awhile chasing the cattle out with the ute and the Kubota.
We have had a few days off. One was spent on drive down to fix a bore. It was nice to get out and about exploring. The drive was about two hours each way. Amazingly it was all within the property. We went down South towards the desert it was quite a scenic drive.
For dinner tonight Spaghetti Bolognese, Tuna Mornay and Garlic Pizza Bread….. Better get cooking…………
